Cantata Insights Series: #80 – Ein feste Burg is unser Gott (A Mighty Fortress is our God)

One of Bach’s best known cantatas, #80 was written for the Reformation Day in Leipzig and was based on Martin Luther’s most famous hymn, Ein feste Burg is unser Gott (A Mighty Fortress is our God). Join us to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Lutheran Reformation by experiencing what is considered to be one of the longest and most complex first movements in Bach’s cantatas.

About the Cantata Insights Series

J.S. Bach wrote more than 300 cantatas during his industrious career. Our Cantata Insights Series provides you with a deeper understanding of Bach and these gems that most audiences don’t get to hear live performances of. Colorado Bach Ensemble’s Artistic Director, James Kim, explains the background and content of the selected cantata, shares his insights, and leads the full ensemble in a performance.
