Himmelskönig, sei willkommen BWV 182
(King of Heaven, welcome)

Colorado Bach Ensemble is excited to offer our third FREE live-streamed concert of Fall 2020, which will also be performed live for a limited number of audience members in a safe and socially distant environment outdoors.

Originally composed in 1714 for Palm Sunday, Cantata no. 182 is a festive cantata that celebrates Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem. This early cantata features a “sonata” instrumental opening, followed by seven movements. One interesting characteristic to note is Bach sets three arias in a row in the middle of the work, each accompanied by different obbligato instruments. Musically, this provides a textural contrast to the outer movements and a wide variety of sounds for the listener.

Tune in to the live stream of this performance at 4 PM (Mountain time) on October 4th to watch this performance from the comfort of your home!

Bethany Lutheran Church, Cherry Hills Village
