When Rebekah Durham was four years old, she proudly declared from the backseat of her family’s suburban that she “knew how to play the fiddle.” Her parents had coincidentally just seen an advertisement for Suzuki Method violin lessons and they decided to sign her up. What began as a curious experiment in Rebekah’s hometown of Midland, Texas was in fact the start of a lifelong dedication to violin playing that has landed her on stages across the world.
Rebekah’s principal teachers were Jeanne Preucil Rose, Bill Preucil, James Maurer, Linda Wang, and Hyo Kang. She earned her Bachelors Degree and Artist Diploma from University of Denver and her Masters Degree from The Juilliard School. She has performed with the Colorado Symphony as a substitute violinist since 2021 and in November of 2024 played both violin and mandolin in their performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 7 under the baton of Peter Oundjian. She has held the position of concertmaster and been a featured soloist with several orchestras including Arapahoe Philharmonic (now Symphony of the Rockies), Boulder Symphony, and National Repertory Orchestra. As a chamber musician, she recently joined Linda Wang and other DU string faculty and alumni for a 2025 Centennial Celebration performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Mendelssohn’s String Octet in E-flat Major. Rebekah has greatly enjoyed performing with the Colorado Bach Ensemble since December 2023 and she was honored to play in Ensemble Charité’s 2022-2023 project of performing and recording the Schoenberg-Riehn arrangement of Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde conducted and sung by Michelle DeYoung.
Rebekah’s musical interests also lie outside of classical music and she has performed bluegrass and indie music extensively. As a member of the Brooklyn-based band, San Fermin, she toured many times across the United States, Canada, and Europe between 2013-2016. More recently, she has performed and toured the U.S. with Colorado-based bluegrass band, Ragged Union. Together they have recorded two albums of original music, the latest of which, Pyramid Stairs, was released in July 2025.
