Monica Hanulik has been performing with the Colorado Bach Ensemble for over ten years. She was Assistant Principal Oboe of the Colorado Symphony from 1997 to 2016, when she retired from that position to start a new career.
Monica holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School, and a Professional Studies Certificate from Temple University. She has performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Carmel Bach Festival, the Cabrillo Music Festival, the Strings in the Mountains Chamber Music Festival, and at the Grand Teton Music Festival. She also was guest principal oboe with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
Monica was a featured soloist with the Colorado Symphony in Bach’s Concerto in C Minor for Oboe and Violin, BWV 1060 and in Copland’s “Quiet City” on the English horn. She performed regularly for several years with Chamber Sound, a chamber music series featuring Colorado Symphony musicians, which she co-founded with her husband.
While still a student, Monica was a soloist in Carnegie Hall and at the Kennedy Center at the invitation of the late Alexander Schneider with his New York String Orchestra. A few years later, she performed again in Carnegie Hall with the Solti Orchestra Project, conducted by the late Georg Solti. At the Tanglewood Music Festival, she performed with Seiji Ozawa, Roger Norrington, and Simon Rattle.
In 2011 Monica began studies in the Business School at the University of Colorado Denver. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance and Risk Management & Insurance, summa cum laude, in 2016. Monica received the Outstanding Undergraduate Award from the Business School and is now a Business Insurance Underwriter at Travelers.
Monica enjoys spending time with her husband, Colorado Symphony violinist Tom Hanulik, and their sons James and William.
