Benjamin Tomkins began his work as an arts administrator in 2007 as the Director of the Strings Attached program, a non-profit initiative in Englewood, CO bringing instrumental training to young students in the district. During his tenure, the program expanded its offerings to include all strings, guitar, piano, and digital music composition for over 120 students in the district. He is currently a Guest Artist with the Denver School of the Arts, and has served as the Symphony conductor of the Colorado Youth Symphony Orchestra.
An active performer, Ben has been bringing his artistry as a violinist, composer, writer, and educator to audiences for over three decades. He received his MM from the Cleveland Institute of Music in Violin Performance with Stephen Rose in 2005, and coached as a chamber musician with members of the Cleveland, Penderecki, Miro, Miami, Pacifica Arditti, and Tokyo quartets. He performs regularly with Opera Colorado, Colorado Ballet, and Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, and is a former member of the Illinois Symphony and Chamber Orchestra and the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. As a composer, his music has been performed around the United States and Europe, and has been regularly featured by many Colorado ensembles and at CMEA.
Today, Ben is continuing his work in the arts as the Executive Director of the Colorado Bach Ensemble. During the day, he is Content Manager, Senior Writer and Editor for Em Dash Content Studio, a boutique digital marketing firm serving businesses from startups to large conglomerates, and has recently focused his efforts on serving non-profit arts organizations. When he’s not at his desk or in rehearsal, Ben loves to cook, run, and spend time with his wife Robyn and their three adorable pets.
