Westin Sorrel is currently the Director of Choral at Dakota Ridge High School, where he conducts the choirs, teaches IB Music, and is the Vocal Music coach for the annual musical. Since arriving at Dakota Ridge in 2015, the program has doubled in enrollment. His choirs have earned superior ratings at various festivals, including Metro Choral Celebration and CHSAA. In 2018, his mixed ensemble had the honor of performing at the Colorado Music Educators Association clinic and conference. During the summer of 2015, Mr. Sorrel had the honor of spending two weeks in Italy at the Sarteano Chamber Choral Conducting Workshop where he worked with world renowned conductor, Simon Carrington. When not teaching at Dakota Ridge, Mr. Sorrel serves at the Assistant Conductor and Tenor Section Leader at Bethany Lutheran Church in Denver.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Sorrel keeps an active professional singing career. He regularly sings with The Colorado Bach Ensemble, Anima Chamber Ensemble, and St. Martin’s Chamber Choir, with which he has been featured as the tenor soloist on Joseph Jongen’s Mass for Organ, Choir, and Brass, Louis Spohr’s Mass in C Minor for Double Choir, and Domenico Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater. Mr. Sorrel has also performed with Laudamus Chamber Chorale, Alpine Chorale, Canto Deo, Devner Young Artists Orchestra, Kantorei, Aspen Music Festival, and the Colorado Music Festival. Additionally, Mr. Sorrel has performed under the direction of Howard Skinner, and Helmuth Rilling, and Simon Carrington. Mr. Sorrel earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the School of Music at Colorado State University where he studied Vocal Music Education following the Performance Enhancement Track.
